I have now been to Salinas several times. I love to recommend it for dinners/drinks with friends as it's consistently good and they have a decent amount of reservations that you don't have to book weeks in advance. A few highlights: 1) Service: Their staff are always great. Shoutout to Fabian for not even being my waiter sometimes but still checking in on my table and making sure we have everything we need. He even saw my friend and I taking a selfie and offered to take a photo of us. 2) Cocktails: Their sangria is insane-- the red wine ice cube so it doesn't dilute, the pomegranate undertones...it's strong and not too sweet. I also got a vodka-based cocktail last time with rock candy in it and it was so good. They have a solid drink menu. 3) Food: Everything is excellent. Particularly love the croquettes (they change them every time), the crudo, the eggplant, octopus, patatas bravas...but they never miss, so order anything. As far as ambiance it's definitely a beautiful space with darker lighting. Vibes are fun and great for groups, but could also be a good date spot.
Excellent cocktails. The eggplant and croquetas were awesome. Pancetta was fine as was the patata bravas. The outside doesn't look like much but the inside had some nice dark wood and a DJ. We would go back
What a hidden gem! Except maybe it was just hidden to me? I've walked by Salinas a million times, but I never thought twice about its unassuming exterior and simple neon blue sign. We wandered in on a rainy Thursday evening, because my bf was craving patatas bravas and Tia Pol was full, and we were taken aback by how large and cute this restaurant was! It was very busy, but we were able to be seated by the bar and then graciously upgraded to a table in the front room when a reservation didn't show up. The bar room was a little noisy, with a live dj, but we looooved the front room, with a quieter ambiance, comfy booths, and a lovely library vibe with the fireplace and bookshelves. Here's what we ordered: - Berenjena: Japanese eggplant with toasted pistachios and pistachio-anchovy aioli. The aioli was delicious but this was probably my least favorite dish. It was still good, but didn't stand out as much as the others. The pistachios were a little too crumby for me. - Bravas Marinas: patatas bravas with a twist! And the twist is caviar so they can justify charging $22 for potatoes. This was a solid dish, with well-cooked potatoes that fulfilled my bf's cravings. However, we both agreed that while the caviar was good at first, the fishy taste doesn't fit that well with the traditional flavor of patatas bravas. Good, but wouldn't order again. - Pulpo con cenizas: get this!!!!! This was probably my favorite dish we got. Well cooked octopus over a bed of black beans and... seaweed? When we were eating, I actually thought it was pasta. Anyways, I loved this dish. - Steak skewer special: I forgot the actual name of the dish because it was on the specials menu, but this was great! Generous portion of meat between three skewers over a bed of flavorful and crispy chickpeas, topped with a bright chimichurri. Delish! - Rossejat rapida: this dish took quite a while to come out, and we were joking that we hoped they forgot it because we were really full by this point, but I'm so glad we got this! First of all, the presentation was beautiful. I've never seen pasta like this, but I actually loved the short spaghetti shape - it was so easy to eat. It doesn't taste like Italian pasta at all, but I loved how unique this dish was, infused with saffron and with little chunks of chicken breast, fava beans, and salty chunks of chorizo. Reminded me a little of paella but with spaghetti instead of rice. I'd probably prefer the flavors of Italian pasta, but this dish is worth trying! I don't love paella so I was happy to try this Spanish pasta. Very happy with our meal at Salinas! If you want delish, elevated tapas in a romantic setting, I'd highly recommend. Spanish tapas is definitely not one of my favorite types of food, but I was thoroughly impressed and I would come again to try the cauliflower, arroz vasca, croquettes, and basque cheesecake.
Great spot! Very romantic vibes; dark room, close proximity. Glass ceiling to see the sky. The food was absolutely delicious. Probably one of the best fish entrees I've had; so tender and cooked perfectly, and the flavors all complemented each other perfectly. The steak was super flavorful. The potatoes were rich and fulfilling. The sauce was decadent, but light and fluffy at the same time. I enjoyed a mocktail off the non-alcoholic menu and it was so elevated, I didn't regret not having a cocktail. Would definitely recommend!
Went in not enthused but was impressed immediately by the front staff and how personable they were. Love the ambiance and low lighting making it a great place for date night. We stopped by before a show and only had appetizers but the crudo, the pulpo and patatas were SO good. I'll have to come with a bigger stomach to try entrees but it was so good. The sauce on the patatas went so well with the octopus I'm still thinking about it. It's a mystery how the potatoes were crispy still under that amount of sauce
I have been to the Basque country, and wow this places does it just well (and in some cases maybe a bit better). I came here with my foodie mom, sister, and socialite from the South. We all have been to Spain before, and agreed that this had tremendous authentic and fresh flavors of the basque country. The Great: a. This is simply a delight if you focus on flavor. b. Cocktails were amazing! c. Price was definitely on the pricier side (I give it 3 dollar signs and not 4), but tremendous value given the quality. d. Service staff were delightful, and knew the menu inside out The Interesting: a. The music is a bit louder for a dark romantic feeling dining spot with top notch food, but not terrible - small details. b. Even for NYC, the space was small This is great for: - 3rd dates - Taking your parents to somewhere trendy - Europeans in town - After Starbucks Reserva Terrible for: - Breaks Ups - People who need large portions - People who don't do well in small spaces
Fabulous spot. The inside is gorgeous & intimate. One of my favorite venues I've been to in the city. The food is pricey but very very good. The octopus was delicious. Service was quick and friendly.
Great vibe, great food, great sound system and fun and comfortable layout. We ate almost every single time on the small plates menu and not one item disappointed. Get the pitcher of Sangria
The food was good , we sat in the garden by the fire place , very romantic , service was a bit slow , we were waiting for our drinks and straw for 15 min. The food was good . We've ordered Rossejat Rapida( pasta with chicken and clams) $34 it was delicious and presentation was good And Pollo Al Carbon ( grilled chicken) $36 And for dessert we've shared cheesecake $16 The ambulance was good , I think service needs some improvement
